"Let us learn the wisdom of Geese- let us fly together to be stronger, let us fly in formation honking to encourage others, let us take turns in leading, let us support during hardship". This was the stirring invocation of Indian American Nurses Association of Maryland (IANAM) president Dr. Alphonsa Rahman during the official inauguration of IANAM on this August 20th, 2016.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by distinguished guests: Dr. Sabita Persaud, President of Maryland Board of Nursing, Dr. Patricia Davidson, Dean of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Mrs. Sara Gabriel, President of the National Association of Indian Nurses of America (NAINA) from State of Illinois, and Dr. Nikki Austin, Professor and Director of Graduate Programs at Towson University.  Mrs. Letha Joseph, President of Indian American Nurses Association of North Carolina (INA-NC), Mrs. Mary Abraham, Secretary of NAINA from Pennsylvania and a member of Pennsylvania Indian American Nurses organization (PIANO), Mrs. Archiena Beaver, Assistant Director of Nursing Education Program and other faculty at Howard Community College, were also among the honorable guests and speakers.

The inaugural ceremony was inspirational, motivational, and uplifting to everyone.  IANAM is calling each and every nurse and nursing student of Indian origin in Maryland to join this professional organization to promote excellence in nursing practice through empowerment, to renew professional and cultural identity as Indian American nurses, and to contribute to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities.
